California Refinance

In the next few years, many California homeowners will be looking to refinance their adjustable rate mortgage loans. The choice of providers out there is vast. California homeowners are being targeted by mortgage companies from all over the United States and abroad by phone, regular mail, e-mail, radio and television advertising. Because of high property values and high mortgage balances, everybody in the mortgage business wants to refinance a mortgage in California.

Choosing among these countless refinance options can be a nightmare. In these next few paragraphs I will make it easier for you to conduct the initial interview and to pick out the loan officers that you want to spend your time talking to about your California refinance.

First, make sure that you are talking to a real licensed Loan Officer, not a telemarketer from India, or order-taker who just got out of college. For most California homeowners their home is their biggest asset, and you want to be consulted by somebody who knows what he or she is talking about- be careful. If you are not familiar with mortgage terms some people might make it sound like they know what they are talking about, but in reality they don’t.

Once you have a Loan Officer on the line, don’t just start answering their questions or asking them what their best refinance rate is, it is too early for that. You want to make sure that you are comfortable with that Loan Officer. Ask them about themselves, how long have they been in business, how long their company has been in business, and where they are located. It will help you get a general idea of who you are talking to and if you want to do business with this person.

Next, ask them how many California refinance loans they have completed in the past. Each state has its own way of doing business. California State Courts have their own rules, procedures, tax codes, and recording deadlines, and the more familiar your loan officer is with how business is done in the State of California the quicker your refinance will fund.

Ask for references. Ask your loan officer to provide names and phone numbers for two or three California refinance clients. Call them after you are ready to start the process with this loan officer and ask them about their experiences with this loan officer.

If you feel that you are comfortable, you are ready to complete your application and have the Loan Officer prepare a mortgage refinance draft for your consideration. This should complete the initial interview process.
